Course Description

Edzell Golf Club lies at the gateway to the Grampians in the foothills of the Angus Glens in the beautiful village of Edzell - midway between the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen.

The mountains form a backdrop to this lovely heathland/parkland course, which was originally laid out in 1895 by Bob Simpson, a leading golf course architect of his day.

In 1933/34 the course was redesigned on recommendations made by the famous James Braid and was upgraded by Martin Ebert of Mackenzie & Ebert in 2015 - with three new tees constructed at holes five, nine and 18, while a new green was built on the fourth hole.

A major earth moving exercise, together with new bunkering, has enhanced the signature 15th hole, while visibility has also improved at the second, third and fourth holes.

Today, the course is situated in some 128 acres and has been complemented with the addition of the nine-hole West Water Course in 2001 - the perfect warm-up before you try and tackle the Old Course.

One of the best holes at Edzell is the par-3 14th called "Majuba", which requires a well-struck iron shot to reach the putting surface.

But, beware, there's a deceptive back to front tilt to the green and you'll certainly find yourself in three-putt territory if your iron shot from the tee finds itself landing above the hole.
