Course Description
Downfield is quite rightly recognised as one of the finest inland courses in the United Kingdom and has played host to many events in its long and illustrious history. Those events include the Scottish Open, Scottish Amateur, British Girls Home Internationals and, most famously, Final Qualifying for the Open. Indeed, it was at Downfield that Paul Lawrie qualified for the championship in 1999 en route to lifting the Claret Jug!
Set in beautiful parkland, the course is a magnificent challenge, with five par-5s from the championship tees and water coming into play on no fewer than seven holes. The 11th, meanwhile, is one of the finest golf holes you will likely ever play.
You will, in all probability, be accompanied on your round by a variety of wildlife, too. Foxes, squirrels, deer, water fowl, ducks, buzzards, and many other interesting species of animals put in regular appearances on the course.
Visitors to the club are treated as temporary members and are, therefore, welcome to use all of the facilities on offer. These include a large lounge area, dining room, bar, snooker room, 19th Hole Bar, TV room, visitors’ locker room and more. It is, in every way, the perfect club to visit.
